Boarding Care Team Member

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Boarding Care Team Member is responsible for providing high-quality, Fear Free care for all boarding patients while ensuring a clean, safe, and enriching environment. This role focuses on daily pet husbandry, facility cleanliness, enrichment activities, and accurate monitoring and reporting of patient behavior and health status. Team members serve as an important link between boarded pets and the medical team by communicating any concerns promptly.

Core Responsibilities:

Fear Free Handling & Patient Care:

  • Provide Fear Free, low-stress handling for all boarding patients
  • Monitor behavior, comfort, and overall well-being throughout the day
  • Safely handle dogs, cats, and exotics of varying sizes, temperaments, and medical needs
  • Report any behavioral or medical concerns to the medical team promptly

Pet Husbandry & Daily Care:

  • Feed pets according to individual dietary instructions
  • Provide fresh water, bedding changes, and general comfort care
  • Administer basic care tasks as directed by medical staff
  • Monitor appetite and overall daily intake
  • Ensure each pet’s basic needs are consistently met with attention and compassion
  • Ensure all hospital and boarding laundry is completed, folded, and restocked in a timely manner to maintain clean and ready patient care areas.

Boarding Monitoring & Charting:

  • Maintain accurate boarding records and daily logs
  • Document elimination habits (urination and defecation patterns)
  • Record appetite, behavior, and activity levels
  • Report abnormalities or concerns to medical staff in real time
  • Communicate changes in condition or behavior promptly and clearly
  • Send client communications regarding patient status updates, including behavior, appetite, and activity, along with photos to provide reassurance and maintain client connection during their pet’s stay.

Enrichment & Patient Well-Being:

  • Provide daily enrichment activities appropriate for each patient
  • Offer exercise, playtime, and social interaction as appropriate
  • Ensure mental stimulation and emotional well-being of boarding pets
  • Adjust enrichment based on individual stress levels and needs

Facility Cleaning & Maintenance:

  • Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, runs, and common boarding areas
  • Maintain cleanliness of the entire hospital as assigned, including treatment and support areas
  • Perform outside maintenance, including cleaning yards and walking areas
  • Ensure a safe, hygienic, and organized environment at all times
  • Follow hospital sanitation protocols and infection control standards

Check-In / Check-Out Support:

  • Assist with boarding check-in and check-out procedures
  • Verify patient belongings, feeding instructions, and medical notes
  • Communicate clearly with clients during drop-off and pick-up
  • Ensure accurate transfer of information to and from medical staff and CSR team
  • Create and send a client-friendly take-home report summarizing the pet’s stay, including daily care, behavior, appetite, elimination habits, enrichment activities, and overall well-being in a clear and reassuring format.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift
  • Ability to safely handle dogs, cats, and exotic pets of all sizes and temperaments
  • Ability to perform cleaning duties, including lifting and carrying supplies
  • Comfort working in an environment with noise, cleaning agents, and animals with challenging or high-intensity behavior patterns.

Qualifications

  • Fear Free Certification (required or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe)
  • Strong understanding of animal behavior and low-stress handling techniques
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in charting and monitoring
  • Reliable communication skills with both medical staff and clients
  • Comfort working in a physically active role with animals of varying sizes

Schedule

Facility hours:

  • Sunday-Saturday: 6:30 AM – 9:30 PM

Shifts will be scheduled within these hours and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
