Job Description
Position Summary:
The Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) plays a critical clinical role in supporting DVMs by performing a wide range of technical skills, ensuring high-quality patient care, and maintaining efficient medical workflow. This position is heavily focused on assisting veterinarians with diagnostics, treatments, procedures, anesthesia support, and hospitalized patient care while maintaining strong communication and medical accuracy throughout the hospital.
Core Responsibilities:
DVM Clinical Support & Technical Skills:
- Assist DVMs with all medical and technical procedures
- Perform and support diagnostic testing, including:
- Blood draws and sample collection
- Laboratory preparation and processing
- Radiology support and positioning
- Assist with and/or perform medical treatments under DVM direction
- Administer medications, fluids, and injections
- Assist with anesthesia monitoring and perioperative care
- Support surgical and dental procedures, including patient preparation and recovery
- Obtain and record accurate patient vitals and medical information
- Provide skilled restraint using Fear Free, low-stress handling techniques
Patient Care & Hospitalization:
- Manage hospitalized patient care based on DVM treatment plans
- Administer medications per treatment sheets/whiteboard instructions
- Monitor patient status and communicate changes to DVMs
- Assist with anesthesia monitoring, COHAT scaling/polishing, radiographs and recovery of surgical and dental patients
- Ensure comfort, cleanliness, and safety of hospitalized patients
Medical Records & Communication:
- Accurately document medical records (EMRs)
- Update treatment sheets, reminders, and callbacks
- Communicate medical updates clearly to the veterinary team
- Support continuity of care across shifts through detailed record keeping
Hospital Flow & Support:
- Assist with appointment flow and medical efficiency as needed
- Ensure preparation of exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical/dental spaces
- Ensure cleanliness, organization, and restocking of clinical areas
- Assist with prescription refill requests (digital and in-hospital)
- Support DVMs and team members during high-volume or urgent situations
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift
- Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments
- Comfort working with ill, injured, or anxious patients
Qualifications
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) credential required
- Strong proficiency in veterinary technical skills and clinical procedures
- Ability to safely assist with anesthesia, surgery, and diagnostics
- Strong understanding of Fear Free and low-stress handling techniques
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Strong attention to detail and medical accuracy
Schedule
Facility hours:
- Monday–Thursday: 7:30 AM – 8:30 PM
- Friday: 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Shifts will be scheduled within these hours and may include evenings and Saturdays as needed.
